I'm running Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2016 Version 15.19.1 (160212). This is the latest version.

My email account is an outlook.com account and is configured with all of the default settings. If I delete an email with Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2016, it does not go to either my outlook.com deleted messages folder or my Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2016 deleted items folder - even though I've configured my email account in Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2016 to do so. Instead, it deletes the email pernanently - in Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2016 as well as in outlook.com. Neither outlook.com nor Apple's mail app does this so the issue is definitely with Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2016. This seems like a bug to me which should be reported to Microsoft. Any suggestions.

Why is this 'by design'? Why would outlook.com take away from it's native capabilities? My outlook.com is set up for incoming mail as IMAP. For outgoing mail, it uses SMTP. This is the way the server configures my account if I allow the server to configure my settings when I add it (which I did). My outlook.com in iMail is configured exactly the same was as it is in outlook for mac - imap for incoming mail - smtp for outgoing. So this can't be a case of imap or smtp not supporting saving messages in the deleted folder.
